DirectDraw Rainbow Color Fix for LOD/Classic!

[:1]For Windows Vista/7 32/64bit. This guide covers the ability to add this fix for ALL VERSIONS of Diablo 2 Classic/LOD.
No need to kill explorer.exe, open the resolution panel, run the game windowed or run some Russian program just to run Diablo 2 without annoying palette problems.

Please note these steps can be complicated for a novice computer user. Do not attempt to perform this fix if you don't know for sure what you are doing. I am not held responsible for any damage to your computer.

Run notepad.
Scroll down and find the reg entry specific to your system and copy it to notepad. Copy one of the above ID's to REPLACE the "????????" portion of the text in notepad. Save it as a *.REG file.
Run the reg file.
Play Diablo 2.

For Older and possibly newer versions.
#1: First you will need to run Diablo 2 and then exit normally. (Make sure Diablo 2 is configured for DirectDraw)
#2: Next you need to obtain the program ID of the Diablo 2 executible. You can do this by running regedit and navigating to the location that applies to your version of Windows. If you are unsure of what version of Windows you have, hit [WindowsLogo Key] + [Pause Key] which will give you a detailed summary of your system.

Verify that the "Name" string in this key is labeled "game.exe". This confirms that Diablo 2 was last ran in DirectDraw mode.
Here you will find a value labed "ID". It has the hex value you need, so just leave regedit open for the time being. Run notepad, copy the reg entry below that applies to your system into notepad, then switch over to regedit, copy the hex value and add the hex value into notepad. Replace the "????????" with the hex value you copied from regedit. (Example: "ID"=dword:???????? becomes "ID"=dword:4c38dfb8) Now save the file somewhere as a *.reg file. (Diablo2colorfix.reg)
After you have your .reg file, run it to merge the information into your registry.
Run Diablo and enjoy.

P.S. - Yo Blizzard, it might be a good idea to update your current installer of Diablo 2/LOD as well as any future patches to add this registry information to Windows Vista/7, as it will save a lot of headaches.
