Sorc builds

has anyone had experience with a lightning/cold sorc? if so what did you find was good and any comments on what everyone thinks of frozen orb/thunder storm/ teleport/both masteries? or what combo of cold/lightning with tele?|||I havent tried light sorc since 1.12 but to be honest i think they nerfed it way too hard. Blizz should have nerfed some items instead of the mastery.|||

Yes I curently have two sorcs. One is hydra / orb and the other is chain light / blizz. Frozen orb was a powerful spell once upon a few patches ago but now it's only a spell to use to sc@@#! by the nearly dominating fire resistant monsters running around the cs in hell,. As far as PvP you can chalk that up as a loss if your relaying on frozen orb unless the person your battling is a total newb with a negative amount of cold resist.
Chain lighting is another "used to be powerful" spell. It's actually quite handy in norm and only a little bit in nightmare, but in hell it's a totally waste of skill points which makes me sooo glad i got her to hell so now i can use that respec when it comes out tuesday. The only light spell that is very useful is static field.
Even though the whole lighting skill tree is a waste (except teleport and static field) I actually found chain lighting to be extrememly helpful in the maggot lair. With the very limited amount of room and monsters seemingly lined up it's very sweet , that's if you got enough skill points and mastery into it that is. The light skill tree is worthless in hell and a joke in PvP. Light spells are fun to use but the damage is just plain SHOT!
I still love my pure vita sorcs though ;)|||

iam sorry but you sound like you dont really have clue what you are talking about, put enough skillpoints in lightning tree and its still VERY powerfull, and combine it with excellent gear and it becomes even more powerfull, 50k+ lightning anyone?
ive played a lightning/orb sorc on beta with decent gear and i would say its probally the most powerfull multi tree spec for the sorc. i was able run through pits an cs very well.|||

so it is a good build then? and have i made the right choice with orb/storm? or should i go chain instead?|||

20 chain lightning 20 lightning 20 light mastery 20 orb, something like that is most common.
try to put any extra points in cold mastery .|||I used a orb/chainlightning sorc and in my opinion she was very powerful lagging only slightly behind a hammerdin - and in terms of killing meph or baal faster there.
I made a pure lightning sorc, but actually preferred the cold/Light sorc because she can dispatch heavy light resisters faster with orb and you can actually spam two chainlightnings or lightning while waiting for the timer on the orb to go out. Just have the orb permantly on the left skill and press shift everytime you want to point it somewhere and then click on right for lightning a couple of times.
It makes life a bit harder against souls though, not to focus a bit more on orb, but then again weak lightning makes the rest harder.
She topped a 9,7 k chainlightning and around a 600 orb, which both are powerful.
Absolutely my prefered build, since you have to watch out a bit more, since you have to think before you tank.
I also did Chaos Sanctuary in hell with her, being able to kill off diablo in about 1 to 1½ minute if i wanted too, not that I did since good drops from the monsters inside there too.
Baalruns are more whimsical, but without to many souls and exploding dolls, it´s done pretty fast like in 3 to 3,5 minutes.
I say only max orb, and then put the rest in lightning, I only used lightning skillers as well and you got get as many general skill items as possible, from spirit, enigma or arcaines and personally I played with ocu for the MF, but that is extra challenging.'
Obviously you need infinity to really kick ass, but she is still powerful without, given that you get your skillcharms and skill items.

i think you missed the fact that i want 20 in tele so i only have 80 left|||

20 teleport is a waste for any spec.
10 teleport / 10 warmth is better, even if all you want to be able to do is infiniport.|||

I think you never said that to begin with....
And yeah you dont want 20 in tele, no one wants 20 in tele. Not even untwinked HC sorcs take a full 20 in TP. Even naked, mercless, and with only 1 point in warmth, you can pretty much inficast TP with like just 15 points. Insight merc pretty much guarantees inficast with just the 1 point in TP. You want those other 19 points to synergize your offense. With full Tals, which is what you should be going for on any dual-element sorc, its not even a question.
CL/FO is my sorc of choice. She's better at general MFing than a Fireball sorc since she has two AoE attacks. The big drawbacks are she's more mana-hungry than a FB sorc, and you need more FCR to reach the highest BP, which means you have to ditch the dual Nagels for FCR rings.|||I've had my CL/FO sorc now for nearly 5 years. I can say this with the gear setup that i have i can MF with about 450 and do close to 750 per orb damage. The lightning tree gets me by mainly using Lightning skill at about 15k. My current setup i run around 632 MF and do an orb dmg of about 529 and Lightning at 9k. In PvM that is sufficient enough to run effectively anywhere only problem being Lord De Seis having the ability to be immune to both lighning and cold dmg. 2k5jnmn
