My idea for clearing up the spam (as well as people that rush into power leveling games spamming 'pp' all over the place), is to set a cool-down period for people joining the game (say, around 10 seconds) and for those spamming the chat after the cool-down has ended, a limit to how many times a player can send a message in a set amount of time (say, after 3 lines, a 5-second cool-down initializes, and a 10-second if the player spams another three, then 15, and so on and so forth) until the player has no option but to remain silent and wait patiently for a response.
Alternatively, an in-game chat ban would work as well. Or a vote function so that a player may be kicked from a game for spam, leaving it ultimately up to the other players whether or not to keep an annoying player in the game, also forcibly prohibiting him from rejoining the game or even trying to whisper anyone inside of it.
On a side note: I would like to see the game played more legitimately and less of a race to 99 and duels to see who crunched numbers hard enough to figure out exactly what to wear with what stats to get the highest damage possible. Teamwork is unknown to this game. Its either one person (or two people) runs the game, or everyone leaves. Its no longer a friendly game. I've been playing it since it came out, though I hadn't really gotten into the online community until around 2004.
Anyways, for those of you that read through all of that, I appreciate your time and look forward to reading your opinions.|||
Q u o t e:
I think the original programming of the game was set up so that teamwork would be a big part. Sorc tele, pally gives auras, necro provides meat shield, druid provides extra life etc......
Then the new crew of programmers came in and started nerfing thins, like the original bowazons, then bone necros, and they continued until everything got nerfed and Pallys actually got enhanced... now the whole game is shot to hell. Runewords were a good idea and were helpful until they became unbalanced, like the worst one out there that is the major cause of botting: enigma.
Still one they need to remove from the game totally.
Enigma-dins have totally ruined the game and placed boting at an all time high.
As far as spammers go, well, the community itself is mainly to blame, FOR SUPPORTING THE SITES BY BUYING THE ITEMS!
Also, simply level restricting games and|or making them passworded will keep spambots out. Blizz could help us out by allowing a perma-iggy list. But, mostly, the community can help itself by not buying what is being sold. As long as the market exists, advertisement exists. So blame yourselves.
The problem with locking games is that they aren't open to public joining. I'm more or less trying to address the issue of spammers directly. We shouldn't have to lock our games to keep spammers out.
I suppose that games like Trist runs could be locked to level 2 and higher since most spam bots are level 1 barbs. Also, anyone that wants to join needs to go out and get to level two (which is done extremely easily by simply going out into blood moor and killing roughly 15 of any creature (even in a private game occupied by yourself).
I've stood by this game since I really started getting into the online community. My main goal here is to try and make the game more enjoyable to play for everyone involved.
