In Nightmare difficulty, these guys can kill me in one or two hits! I'm a Frozen Orb/Fireball sorceress with about ~600 health with gear at level 60, and I'm using a Defense Merc from Act II. I've gotten to the point of firing off Orbs to feel out an area, but every time I hear their little clacking bones I'm thinking oh crap.
So what am I doing wrong, if anything? Why are they able to do so much damage per hit to me? At this point of the game, they are by far the most dangerous mob I've ever encountered.|||ROTFL ! I feel your pain. I hate those little bastards, too. I play a Bowazon with a Rogue hireling and every time I hear those little buggers scurrying about, I fall back and let Valkyrie tank them while the Rogue and I pepper them with arrows.
I haven't check the specs on these guys, but they do a lot of damage fast and when they pop (die) they do another pile of damage (like their last act of defiance). Check the Arreat Summit website, Monsters, Act III and see if they tell you anything useful.|||Yeah, bone fetishes are notorious for being one of the most dangerous monsters in the game. Be aware of their locations are use extreme caution when exploring these areas. In addition to act 3, they are also in the Throne of Destruction in NM and Hell. Don't be afraid to cast frozen orbs before you move forward, and have your merc be the front man, he's not affected by their death explosion.|||

I'm talking about those little undead version of the stabby guys in Act III, found in the temples of Kurast and in the Durance of Hate.

When they have closed in on you evade or port away but do NOT attack them! It's their Death Explosion what kills you.
Let your merc tank them and fire your spells only when they are all busy with your merc.|||

This, I have a frenzy barb with about 1000hp and I let his mercenary handle them. Your minions, or at the very least your mercenary doesn't take damage from corpse doll explosions, but be sure you give them adequate tools to do their job. They can still hurt quite a bit if they hit you in melee.|||Ohhh! I'm glad I'm not the only one with problems with these little jerks!
I didn't know they go pop when they die, that is almost certainly what kills me.
Thanks for the tips guys!|||
Q u o t e:
I think that in HC if you are doing a baal run and they spawn it is best to quit the game and remake. Better safe than sorry.
Instead try figuring out a plan to kill them.
Sorc: You have teleport, use it to your advantage. teleport away and then kill them off from a distance. Or teleport away and completely ignore them.
Necro: cast fear on them, then kill them with bone spear for example
Bowazon/java: run away and kill from distance. Or freeze them with frozen arrow.
Barb: Use howl / Grim ward and kill them one by one. Barbs usually have a big lifepool, so they can take the dmg from 1 or 2 dolls.
I dont know if these are the "best" tactics, but anything is better then just point & click & suicide.|||Dolls deal dmg on death we all know that. However if you freeze them in place and shatter them using this method their death explosion will not activate. Frost blast or glacial spike since your an orber should do this.|||

Death explosions don't apply to either hirelings or pets.

Bowazon/java: run away and kill from distance. Or freeze them with frozen arrow.
They can only be frozen in Normal and Nightmare: in Hell, 0 chill effectiveness means they cannot be chilled, frozen or slowed by Holy Freeze (and its radial cold damage won't be applied either).

However if you freeze them in place and shatter them using this method their death explosion will not activate.
Even if they shatter in Normal or Nightmare, their death explosion damage is still applied. However, this damage is applied in a 3 1/3 yard radius, which is small enough to allow a player with a rangeadder 3-4 weapon to kill them while standing outside it (provided they're positioned correctly and the monster is held in place). The damage can also be blocked, and Avoid, Evade and Weapon Block are effective.|||Kill them with ranged weapons/spells before they have a chance to close in. Don't be afraid to fire before you see them.|||Haha, yeah these things suck. Especially when teamed up with horadrim ancients... and burning souls at the same time (in the throne)|||

Actually that's one of the very few remaining monster combos delivering entertaining fights.
Far too rare IMO.|||The whining from people has reduced Diablo to a sissified version of it's former self. Gone is the iron maiden curse. Corpse explosion from the fire boss is trav has been reduced. Rune drops increased. Synergies imporved for certain classes and nerfed for others. C'mon people these made the game more of a challenge. While I hate those little bastards with a passion I deal with it. I wish they'd return the balance back to the game. Why did IM disappear? I think the melee players whined hard enough. What's next remove immunities from hell monsters cuz you can't kill them?|||

Thanks to the removal of iron maiden, people can actually PLAY a melee character through Hardcore. And by PLAY I mean play through the game solo doing all the quests, not getting rushed. This was almost impossible before. Anything that can kill you in one hit without warning no matter how much life/defense/damage reduction you have is not a fun challenge, imo.
This game actually IS a challenge for people who don't use JSP, get rushed, and have dupewords galore. The runedrop rate was ridiculous, finding a legitimate HR was almost impossible. Your odds for winning the lottery were greater. If this is not enough of a challenge for you, don't play. Blizzard didn't just make these changes because one raging nerd told them to, these were huge issues that a majority of the community were fighting to get fixed.|||

To the best of my knowledge, the only builds that get impacted that way are Zealots or Shapeshifters. The rest have very simple solutions.|||

ROFL!!!!!! Have you seen some of the trade games lately? Since patch bnet has gone retarded. I saw a guy today claiming only jah, ber and Lo were high runes. Hmmmmmm, last time I checked everything Mal up was(or at least Ist). The change in rune drops has impacted trade values dramatically.
Personally, I liked much of what was there. So what if a melee char couldn't do chaos big whoop. The one thing "fixed" since patch is stacked auradins. Far worse imo that IM or dolls will ever be. Stack ur char hostile walk out insta slaughter LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Glad it's gone.
I for one liked trying to complete all difficulties solo. So classes hell was/is next to impossible without rw's or help. Immunities among other things make it a challenge. Curious, how many time have any here solo'd the whole game with crap gear and no help this patch?
