Diablo's LHoD: melee range fixed?

In previous versions, Diablo's Lightning Hose of Death couldnt hit you if you were in melee range with him, and this was true on the 1.13 PTR as well. I used it to great advantage with my sorc and especially with my bowazon, who gets 1-shot by the LHoD otherwise.
Now, it seems like D is able to hose me even at pointblank range. Did something change? Or have I just been standing with my "toe on the line" so to say?

Zon question

How do deadly strike and critical strike add? I know I've seen an equation concerning this in the past, but I can't seem to find it now. I know they are not simply additive. I'm playing a bowazon that has 30% deadly strike from items, and I'm trying to figure out how much critical strike she would need, combined with the deadly strike, to give 100% chance for doing double damage. If some can direct me to the equation (X% CS + Y% DS = Z% chance for double damage) I will appreciate it. Thanks.|||http://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/magic.shtml
About half way down.|||The simplified formula for your chance for double damage is
CS+DS-(CS*DS)
where CS and DS are expressed as percentiles, naturally (ie, 50% is 0.50)
http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=693348&highlight=chance
And you can never get 100% chance for double damage unless you have 100% deadly strike. Zons usually shoot for L16 CS after all +skills, for 65% chance for CS. After that, returns diminish substantially.

PLEASE Fix Dream aura stacking bug!!

So many people are abusing it in pk games.... please...
I beg you blizzard...

Paladin Prayer mana drain glitch-please help!

My son has been playing the Paladin character. He is currently level 21, not high enough to start using the "Meditate" skill which requires level 24. He has spent 15 skill points on the "Prayer" skill. Everything was fine and then, BAM! all of the sudden mana started draining from his character whenever the "prayer" ability was activated. He can be standing in a town, fully healed, not poisoned or anything and his mana drains very rapidly for no apparent reason. This was not the case before. Prayer used to drain mana only to heal an injury. Once healed the mana stopped draining and started to replinish at a normal rate. He is sad because his favorite character is not working properly. Can anybody please help? Incidentally, I tried creating a new Paladin and it is reacting the same way. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Blizzard tech support suggested the forums.|||It is working as intended. Although better is to use Cleansing, as Prayer is the one of the synergies for it. You can have Cleansing on and it will heal the same as Prayer without any mana cost, plus you benefit from it's poison and curse reduction.|||

Prayer drains mana no matter if you're damaged or not.|||The issue's probably that, until Prayer had reached level 15, it had simply eaten mana more slowly than the Paladin regenerated it. The reason it could be seen draining mana when it was healing could be ascribed to the fact that, usually, if you're hurt, you're in combat, which means you're using Zeal/etc.
Typically, anything requiring a reinstallation of Diablo II will be quite obvious, like the game crashing, graphics disappearing or such. Though, unless you play mods or use hacks, I can't imagine why it would ever need reinstallation at all.|||I know this post is nearly a year old, but I have the same concern. Up to patch 1.09 the Paladin could have Prayer active and it would only drain Mana when the Paladin (and/or party members) were injured. Once he was healed the Mana drain would stop, allowing Mana to regenerate. I quit playing for a couple of years and when I got back patch 1.12 had already been released. It was at this time that I noticed the Prayer "glitch".
What bothers me most is that with the improvements to other character's Skills and the addition of Synergies, why would any of the Paladin's Skills be downgraded? (imo) This alone was enough to make me (almost) want to stop playing the Paladin character.
Personally, I would prefer it if the Prayer Skill was fixed to work like it originally did.|||Well it probably got changed when they overhauled the synergy system....
TBH, as the posters a year ago said, its not really an issue since Cleansing and Meditation will give you your full Prayer regen rate without having to worry about mana cost, in addition to the curse/poison duration or mana regen bonuses. Prayer isnt meant to be an endgame-level aura, anymore than Blessed Aim (which also, coincidentally, has a passive synergy bonus)|||I did not create this Topic, but I want to thank all the posters for sharing information on this issue, especially:

I purchased Diablo II Collector's Edition ten years ago, so I may not remember accurately, but I believe Cleansing originally just reduced Poison and Curse duration. I also believe Droid33 is correct that the Cleansing Skill's healing ability was introduced with the synergy system.
In any event, thank you all, for the info. It has made me re-evaluate the Paladin as a favorite character.|||

Read the Prayer aura description.
Prayer is the one and only aura that requires mana whenever it is active. Every 2 seconds Prayer requires the mana cost stated in the skill description, no matter if anyone in your party needs Healing or not. The aura works as intended.
If you don't want mana to be used up select either Cleansing or Meditation. Each of those auras grant the same amount of Healing as your Prayer aura as a passive effect. Once you've got enough hard points and items accumulated you'll also note that this passive effect will exceed those of other synergies which are capped at 20 hard points invested. If for example you would have a lvl 30 Prayer any Cleansing or Meditation will be granted the full additional healing effect of lvl 30 Prayer.
Now if the mana drain exceeds the auras stated mana cost this is either a lag effect with nothing happening for seconds and then the game catching up rapidly using up mana - or a new bug.|||Just out of curiosity I dug out my old BradyGames, Diablo II, The Only Official Strategy Guide. Below are exact quotes from the guide, first printed in 2000.
    Prayer (Level 1)
This is one of the Paladin's most powerful skills because it has the ability to heal you and your nearby allies passively, simply by being active. When it heals you or a member of your party, Prayer takes mana from your reserve, but only when it heals; otherwise it is simply 'on' passively waiting for your health to fall below optimum. When used in a multiplayer party, Prayer is incredibly important, especially at higher levels, because it can heal everyone in the party simultaneously.
Quoted from BradyGames, Diablo II, The Only Official Strategy Guide, Page 74.
    Cleansing (Level 12)
Cleansing reduces the amount of time that poison will affect you or any members of your party within the aura's radius of effect. This aura is important in places like the Tombs or the Spider Cave where you're likely to face several enemies that can infect you with a dose of poison. Because poison can be so devastating, especially to a party if they all get poisoned, this aura is a huge asset in multiplayer games.
Quoted from BradyGames, Diablo II, The Only Official Strategy Guide, Page 76.
    Meditation (Level 24)
This aura increases the mana recovery rate for your Paladin and nearby party members. In the first level, Meditation speeds up mana recovery by 60 percent; however, when you've put 20 skill points into this aura, you can get a mana regeneration rate that's 300 percent faster than normal! In a group of Sorceresses and Necromancers, this ability to regenerate mana quickly is a highly prized skill.
Quoted from BradyGames, Diablo II, The Only Official Strategy Guide, Page 78.

This just goes to show how much the Skills have changed since the game was first released. I've also noticed that with the Cleansing and Meditation Skills' ability to heal, the rate of healing is dependent on the number of Skill Points you invest in Prayer. Currently, Meditation makes a great duel-leeching skill.
